DENTON — State Representative Myra Crownover (R-Denton) announced Monday she filed for re-election to the Texas House of Representatives. Crownover first ran for election to the state house in a special election in the Spring of 2000.
"It has been a great privilege and honor serving in the Texas House of Representatives. Texas is a wonderful state and I look forward to continued public service for Denton County," Crownover stated.
Since first running for the legislature nearly seven years ago, Crownover cited the issue of quality education as always being a top priority. She continued by adding, "Texas cannot be a first-rate state without a first-rate education system. As your elected officials, you have entrusted us to ensure necessary resources are available. I pledge to continue that fight for our school children."
Crownover also mentioned as top priorities the importance of shepherding expanded newborn screening in the state as well as increasing funding for proven drop-out prevention programs such as Communities in Schools. Additionally, Crownover looks to continue her work on behalf of the University of North Texas, Texas Woman's University, NCTC, and Denton State School, all located within her district.
House District 64 includes portions of Denton County: Denton, Lake Dallas, Corinth, Shady Shores, Hickory Creek, Lakewood Village, Little Elm, Oak Point & The Colony north of 121.
Crownover has represented District 64 in the Texas House of Representatives since 2000. She is a member of the Appropriations Committee, serves as Chairman of Budget and Oversight on the Energy Resources Committee, and is a member of the Calendars Committee.
Crownover, who has interests in the banking, ranching, and energy industries, earned her bachelor's degree in Education from Southern Methodist University and her master's degree in Education from Texas A&M University. In 1970 she married Ronny Crownover, DVM. They celebrated their 30th anniversary before his death in March 2000. Rep. Crownover has four sons: Scott, Luke, John and Dan, who were all educated in the Denton public school system, and one granddaughter, Beatrice Anne.
